Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the information used for?
Each week, we collate the information we receive from our panellists into reports and determine which brands are selling better across a wide range of markets, from shampoo to milk, chocolates and feminine care. This information is used by brands and retailers to understand how popular their products are, so they can adjust their marketing strategies accordingly.
What are the items that I should scan?
‘Groceries’ refer to items such as food and non-food items. Examples include bread, milk, soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, skin creams/lotions, sanitary pads, chocolates, sweets, soft drinks, juices, bottled water, chips, snacks, tea, coffee, canned food, cereals, frozen meat, oats, soup, oil, sauces, honey, house-cleaning products, tissues, laundry products (detergents and fabric softener), baby food, baby powder and creams, disposable diapers, pet food and alcohol. We don’t include unbranded/loose fruits, vegetables, meat and seafood, as well as toys, furniture, electronic items, clothing, stationery items or cigarettes.
How much time will it take to scan every time I shop?
The time taken will depend on the number of products you need to scan in from each shopping trip. For example, your daily shopping for products like milk and bread should only take a few minutes to scan but your monthly or weekly shopping will take a little longer to scan.
If all the information is confidential, why do I need to enter my personal details at the recruitment stage?
Personal details such as family size help us ensure PanelSmart covers a good cross section of all types of households across the country – small and large and those with younger and older family members.
